APPLE RESTORATION CD
The Apple Restoration CD is a collection of CD-ROM disks that provide a quick and easy way to restore software removed from a hard drive because of a repair or upgrade. These CDs, for use by Apple Authorized Service Providers only, replace software that was originally sold by Apple with Apple products. Use the Apple Restoration CD for System Software to reinstall system software and Apple Restoration CD for Market Software (Volumes 1 and 2) to reinstall application software shipped on computers offered through specific market or channel programs.
System Requirements
To use the software provided on Apple Restoration CD, you will need:
•A fully functional Macintosh computer with aminimum of 2 MB of RAM
•An Apple CD-ROM drive with a SCSI cable and terminator (for external drives)
Product Features
Both the Apple Restoration CD for System Software and the Apple Restoration CD for Market Software use the At Ease desktop interface and provide a similar set of standard Apple installer programs and utilities.
The Apple Restoration CD for System Software includes software and installers that allow technicians to restore the original system software that shipped on an Apple computer, peripheral, printer, or networking card. Software for initializing, updating, and repairing hard drive directories is also on this CD. The Apple Restoration CD for System Software, available by subscription only, is updated quarterly or as often as Apple determines is necessary. Each update replaces the previous version of the CD.
The Apple Restoration CDs for Market Software include software and installers for technicians to restore the original system software that shipped on Apple computers. Use Apple Restoration CD for Market Software to restore system software and third-party bundled applications on systems that have shipped since October 1992.
Volume 1 contains software for the Performa 200, 400, 405, 430, 450, 460, 466, 476, 550, and 600 systems. Volume 2 contains software for the following K-12 and Higher Education bundles:
•1992 Back-to-School Program
•1992 Q1 Educator Advantage Program
•1992 & 1993 Early Language System Program
Each volume also contains software for initializing systems with HDSC Setup and for updating and repairing hard drive directories. Future volumes of custom configurations will be announced as they become available.
Unlike Apple Restoration CD for System Software, Apple Restoration CD for Market Software is not a subscription product. Each volume is offered separately on the Service Prices.
Each Apple Restoration CD includes:
•Bootable CD technology
•At Ease interface
•Fast installation (4 megabytes of information restored per minute)
•Apple disk utilities (such as Disk First Aid and HDSC Setup)
•A familiar installer interface for restoring software to any drive the user
chooses
•Easy-to-follow User’s Guide
•An on-line Read Me file
•AppleCD SC Plus, AppleCD 150, and AppleCD 300 drive compatibility
These CDs are only for Apple Authorized Service Providers, and should be used to restore software that was originally on a drive. Unauthorized use may result in termination of the Apple Authorized Service Provider
contract.

POWERBOOK DUO 250 AND 270C UPGRADES
In October 25, 1993, Apple began offering upgrades to the PowerBook Duo 250 and 270c systems exclusively through the Apple Assurance Program. Customers who have PowerBook Duo 210 or 230 systems may take advantage of these upgrades. Products needing repair or fully functional systems are eligible for these upgrades -- with no difference in price.
Prices are the same for customers upgrading from either the PowerBook Duo 210 or 230 to the PowerBook Duo 250 or 270c.
When a PowerBook Duo is upgraded to a PowerBook Duo 250, customers receive a new display and logic board. Both are covered by Apple’s One-Year Limited Warranty. With the PowerBook Duo 270c Upgrade, customers receive new external plastics along with a new display, logic board, and internal magnesium subframe. Since so much of the product is replaced with the PowerBook Duo 270c Upgrade, all Apple-labeled components in the product are covered by the Apple One-Year Limited Warranty. With both upgrades, customers receive new system software, new Type II NiMH battery, and a new User’s Guide.
Customers who upgrade to the PowerBook Duo 270c and have a Duo Dock will also need to upgrade their Duo Dock because the PowerBook Duo 270c is slightly thicker. The Top Cover Retrofit for PowerBook Duo Dock (M1814Z/A) can be ordered through their local Apple Authorized Service Provider and is user installable.
Apple Authorized Service Providers and Service Facilitators have the option of either referring customers to Apple for PowerBook Duo upgrades, or facilitating upgrades themselves. To facilitate upgrades, call 512-919-2775; to refer customers to Apple Assurance for upgrades, have them call 1-800-SOS-APPL.

UPGRADES UPDATE
Beginning in late November, Apple Service will offer a limited number of Macintosh Quadra 700 Logic Board Upgrades.* These upgrades are identical to the ones offered previously by Apple Finished Goods and are covered by Apple’s One-Year Limited Warranty.
This kit, which upgrades a Macintosh IIcx or IIci to Macintosh Quadra 700, includes 4 MB DRAM, system software, a microphone, and a new case. For pricing information, refer to the November CPU Logic Board Upgrades Service Prices.
When customers come to you for service, don’t forget to offer them the option to upgrade their units while they’re in for repair. Because you can now “upgrade upon failure,” an old board doesn’t need to be functional to be upgraded through Service.
To order an upgrade, request an Advanced Exchange for the appropriate upgrade kit by using the AppleOrder system or by contacting U.S. Customer Service 512-919-2775. Refer to the Service Source CD for upgrade installation information.
*All upgrades are available while supplies last.
